Career Development is the lifelong process of managing learning, work, leisure, and transitions in order to move toward a personally determined and evolving preferred future.
In educational development, career development provides a person, often a student, focus for selecting a carrier or subject(s) to undertake in the future. Often educational institutions provide career counselors
to assist students with their educational development.
In organizational development (or OD), the study of career development looks at:
·         how individuals manage their careers within and between organizations and,
·         how organizations structure the career progress of their members, it can also be tied into succession planning within most of the organizations.
In personal development career development is:
·         " ... the total constellation of psychological, sociological, educational, physical, economic, and chance factors that combine to influence the nature and significance of work in the total lifespan of any given individual.

How to communicate Effectively in a Job

                                   Communicating effectively is one of the key steps to performing well in a job interview. Good communication lets an interviewer know you're articulate, educated and personable and it helps you get your important qualifications known.
Ø  Utilize small talk.
                         Communicate effectively in a job interview by using the small talk at the beginning to your advantage. Smile, respond to pleasantries and be sure to shake your interviewer's hand. The small talk exchanged at the beginning of the interview will help the interviewer gain an understanding of your personality and how you communicate with people.
Ø Stay positive.
                         Effective communication in a job interview should focus on positive or neutral topics, not negative ones. Avoid mentioning any negative news issues or controversial current events that will cause the mood of the interview to shift in a negative direction.
Ø Answer the questions.
                    Communicate clearly in a job interview by answering the questions you're asked succinctly without elaboration or extra examples. Your interviewer will ask for examples if they're needed. Answer questions thoroughly and completely, but don't ramble or stray far from the original questions asked.
Ø Be professional
                    Your interviewer will likely be friendly and might try to make you feel comfortable, but this doesn't mean you should treat the interviewer like your friend. Remember that you're in a business setting interviewing for a professional position and conduct yourself accordingly.
Ø Skip the slang
Speak professionally during your interview with complete sentences and no slang terms or colloquialisms. This doesn't mean using big words outside your normal vocabulary. Just speak in a professional, polished way.

Ø Avoid "um."
Avoid using filler words like "um" or "like" in sentences or to fill gaps in the conversation when you're speaking during the interview. This habit will make you sound unpolished and unprofessional. Practice conducting an interview-length conversation with a friend and focus on eliminating these words from your speech if this is something you tend to do when you're nervous or speaking in public.

Ø Let the interviewer run the interview.
It's important to let your interviewer steer the interview in the direction he wants or needs it to go. Don't interrupt him or change topics if he's discussing something. Ask for a moment at the end of the interview if you feel you have an important qualification to mention or skill that you would like to highlight.
Ø Breathe.

Take a few deep breaths to calm down if you feel yourself getting nervous or overwhelmed during the interview. This pause will help you re gain focus and maintain your level of confidence.

When answering this question, it is important that you respond with relevant skills and strengths that make you suited to the job.Doing research beforehand can help prepare an answer to this question. By studying the job advert and person specification, it can help you think about the requirements that make you relevant and appropriate for the job role.
3.What Are Your Weaknesses?
Try not to be too critical when answering this question. Instead pick one of your weaknesses and try to turn it into a positive.For example, you could be a perfectionist, which means that you sometimes take longer on tasks but you make sure that they are completed to a high quality. It is important to make a negative into a positive as it doesn’t make you appear overly critical and shows you can reflect on your own performance.
4.Why Did You Leave Your Last Job?

Whatever the situation was from your previous job, you should always answer this question with a positive and enthusiastic response. If the reason for leaving your last job was redundancy, then you should talk about how your company had to restructure, instead of focusing on your own personal situation.
Under no circumstances should you criticise your previous employer, as this will appear unprofessional.
5.Why Do You Want This Job?
Answer this question with a response that highlights why you would be a good candidate for the job and how enthusiastic you are about it.
Ensure that you show an interest in the job sector, understand the company and their ethos and show how your skills match their requirements.
6.Give Me An Example Of A Difficult Situation/Task At Work And How You Dealt With It
This is often asked so that you can express situations in which you used problem-solving and communication skills to help resolver the situation. It is suggested that you identify a situation that you assisted in settling through showing emotional intelligence.
7.Tell Me About An Achievement You Are Proud Of
This question gives you the opportunity to show how past achievements will benefit the business. It is suggested that you only include personal achievements if they are highly impressive or prestigious. Otherwise try and identify a time where you achieved a good sale or something relevant to the job role.
For the more experienced candidates looking for higher level roles e.g.Job the answer should focus on closely related areas of sales achievements and executive decisions, for example your answer should mention the driving of an increase in sales or building a successful sales team regionally and globally – what did you achieve and how, success stories are key!
8.What Are Your Career Goals?
The reason for this question being asked is because the employer wants to understand how long you intend to stay for. Reassure them by explaining how the job role fits your career plan, as this will display your long-term commitment to the company.

9.What Are Your Expectations Of The Salary?

The salary is typically discussed when the job is actually offered, so if possible try and avoid bringing this up in the interview. However, if this question is asked by the interviewer just give a real but wide salary range that you are happy to negotiate and emphasise that you feel the salary will not be an issue if you decide to work with each together.
You could also give examples of previous pay and benefits; by saying “in my last role my salary was” “the benefits/bonuses included meant my pay reached….” this helps the interviewer see the scale to which they can negotiate on too.
10.What Do You Know About The Organisation?

It is very important that you show you have done some prior research of the company before the interview. Looking into areas such as the company structure, finances, customers, products and services, competitors and market trends as these are the key areas.
You need to show you have a thorough understanding of what the company is about and how they work. If not, it will look like you have no interest in working for the company.
